DAY ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-NINE

Well, it finally happened. I couldn't ride my bike to work this morning. And with the car acting up with power issues it was not a fun ride to get me there. I did discover that I can work a ton of overtime though and that will help with what happened later that day. Martha and I took the car in to get fixed. They replaced all the belts and checked everything out and she runs like a dream. HAd to shell out two hundred and twenty bucks, but it runs and in this weather, that is all that is important. Sure, the check is gfonna bounce, but our bank has that three hundred dollar cushion so it's not so bad. Now, I will have to work that ton of overtime to pay for everything. And it's December so Christmas is also on it's merry little way. Weeeeeeeee! I love Christmas in the religious context with the birth of our savior. I also like that they still play the Christmas specials of my youth like THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS. Dick Shawn as Snow Miser is awesome. Plus we get RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER and A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS. But, this whole commercialism aspect never sat well with me. Presents are good, but they started shoving this stuff down our throats before Halloween.
I think businesses have it wrong. They think that every year they need to make more money than the year before. Wrong! If you are in business, you need to make money. Period. There is no good reason for you to top yourself each and every year. It's insane to think like that. Do you think you're pleasing the stockholders? Screw the stockholders! That kind of thinking is going to devour you whole in the end. Especially when you realize that you can't do it each and every year. Greed kind of sucks, doesn't it?
Martha and I had calzones while we waited for the car and that was nice. We played rummy and just hung out while the car was being fixed. I love our mechanic shop but they really need a coffee shop closer to the place.
